Dark and Darker – Useful Tips for New Players (Playtest)
Newbies Advice
Lobby
Your lobby is set to public by default, but the thing is, players will have to search for your specific username in order to invite you, there is no lobby matchmaking, just you inviting other players, and vice versa.
General Tips
Here’s some tips to get you going:
- There is no voice chat nor any text chat (except for the lobby screen) for now.
- IMO, Don’t play barbarian, especially as a solo player. I’d choose to Play either rogue, or ranger, but thats just me. Play any class that suits your needs and whichever one works best for you.
- Any spiders you encounter will most likely be because of a “Spider pot” Destroy the pot (It’ll be just your regular clay pot that is halfway embedded in the floor and also flipped over) Or else the spiders will just keep spawning and spawning forever.
- If you’re by yourself, something you can do which is quite risky but extremely worthwhile if it works is to just team up with other players, you can do this by (and this is just how i communicate) equipping your torch, and using the “Surrender” emote. The Surrender emote will be in your “Customize” tab, then go to “Emotes” Then assign it to any empty slot (They’ll all be empty) then, use “T” and select the emote.
- 9/10 times rangers will not be friendly.
- Do not go into the red portals, they will take you to hell. I am not kidding. There is insane loot there, but IMO it’s not worth it.
- Rogue’s Pickpocket sucks. it just takes a random item out of their inventory, if you’re playing as a rogue and you manage to get behind someone, just kill them. Or not. Up to you.
- When navigating the dungeon, you will encounter traps, The floor spikes are easy to detect and to avoid, just simply walk around them or hug the walls if they’re near any. Wall spikes on the other hand are total crap. They are nigh invisible and you most likely won’t notice they’re there until it’s too late. To avoid them, simply just crouch. they cannot be activated if you’re crouching.
- When attacking an NPC such as a skeleton, it’s best to whack ’em or stab em once (Or twice if you’re fast enough) backpedal away from them before they can execute their slow melee attack, and once they’ve missed (Hopefully) close the gap and continue attacking. Rinse and repeat and you’ll do fine.
- When you die, you lose everything you’ve gathered from the dungeon. You also lose everything you buy and had equipped on you when you die. IMO just don’t buy anything from the merchants, It’s not worth it to spend 100 gold on some gear only to die to a skeleton archer.
- Also when navigating the dungeon, you will encounter statues with glowing orbs. These can be activated and you can “Pray” for either Protection, Speed, power, or healing. Each statue has its own buff associated with it when you pray.
- As far as i know, there is no fall damage.
- Dragonflies are a total nuisance, though a good way to deal with ’em is to just run away or to get underneath them, they can’t attack straight down.
- This game is an early playtest, playtests will come and go and with it, your characters, so don’t get too attached to them.
- Don’t rush things, sometimes, it’s worth it to just stop and listen. Maybe you’ll hear footsteps just beyond that door you were about to walk through.
That’s all i have, but i hope it helps. Stay safe and have fun.
